James Thacker Mountaineering

James Thacker Mountaineering offers a variety of winter climbing courses to cater for the enthusiastic beginner as well as regular winter climbers who wish to push their grade with some coaching.

Talisman Activities

Based in Aviemore and the Cairngorms since 1992 Talisman Mountaineering is run by Ron Walker (MIC) and offers qualified guiding in summer and winter mountaineering as well as rock and ice climbing courses. All our guides and instructors are local residents within the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland and have unrivalled experience and local knowledge of the area.

They are specialist in winter skills and winter mountaineering course and supply, transport and all technical equipment such as axes and crampons for free.

We were the first and only company in the uk to offer honest, regular and reliable photographic condition reports and have been doing so for almost a decade.

Alpha Mountaineering

Alpha Mountaineering offer all aspects of mountaineering in the Scottish hills. They provide instruction and guiding in walking, scrambling and climbing, both in summer and winter. High Mountain Guides is a friendly, dynamic and professional Mountain Guiding company run by Rob Jarvis, International Mountain Guide (IFMGA). They specialise in tailor made mountaineering, climbing and skiing experiences for groups and individuals.

West Coast Mountain Guides is run by professional mountain guide Alan Kimber, who has 34 years' experience of mountain guiding and instruction in Scotland and abroad. Ecosse Mountains

Based in Aviemore Ecosse Mountains is run by Mountaineering Instructor Kevin Ruthford offering a range of climbing courses, from Snow, Ice and Mixed to Summer Mountaincraft.

Northern Mountain Sport

Northern Mountain Sport are a small organisation specialising in mountain guiding and instruction to individuals and groups as well as providing the full range of MLTE (Mountain Leader Training England) Awards. They operate UK wide, particularly the Highlands of Scotland, Northumberland and the English Lake District.

Paul Warnock and Euan Whittaker are experienced Mountain Instructors with a passion for the outdoors and for teaching. Based in central Scotland, the mountain areas of Ben Nevis, Glen Coe, The Cairngorms and the Lake District are close to hand.

More Than Mountains

More Than Mountains offer rock climbing, scrambling, guided walks, navigation courses and winter mountaineering courses. They are based in Aviemore for the winter season offering winter skills, winter mountaineering and snow and ice climbing.

Di Gilbert Mountaineering

Di Gilbert Mountaineering provides training, instruction, and guiding in all aspects of mountain craft, specialising in bespoke courses for individuals and groups.  Di Gilbert is a full time professional mountaineering instructor holding the MIC award, a member of both the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and the Mountain Instructors Community.


Real Adventure

Courses vary from rock & ice skills courses with the head of RA Dan Robinson (MIC and active member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors-AMI) to youth and schools programs (residential’ and single day activities) and NGB Qualifications.

Dan stands on the BMC’s Technical Committee & MLTE Board for the AMI, Chairs the Cumbria Bolt Fund, and is a Mountaineering Technical Advisor. He also holds high level qualifications in caving and paddle sports.
